About St. Brigid: Born in Ireland c.451, died Feb 1, 523 in Kildare, Ireland. Brigid was very beautiful and her father had promised her to marry a wealthy man. She prayed that God would make her ugly so she wouldn't have to marry him and apparently her prayer was answered. However, once in the convent, her beauty returned.

Brigid is credited with being the first Irish Christian nun and is the foundress of many monasteries.

Feast Day: February 1st

Venerated in the Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Angician Churches.

Learn about this legendary saint.

Brigid is the Patron Saint of Ireland along with Saint Patrick and St. Columba. She is also the patron saint of dairymaids, cattle, midwives, Irish nuns, newborn babies and more.

NOTE: In my painting I've included the Crozier in her hand which shows her high religious status, the Brigid Cross she made while teaching about Christ. There are flames above her head to depict her love of God and that she was alive with the Holy Spirit.
