Christrus Rex - Alpha and Omega

Christus Rex, Latin for Christ the King. The Alpha and the Omega represent that He is the beginning and the end. The PX at the bottom is the earliest Greek symbol for Christ. He is standing on an orb representing His Rule over the earth. It is His footstool. (Matthew 5:35)

Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart
Tune: Marion by Henry Messiter
Procession recorded at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia, South Carolina.

Rejoice, ye pure in heart,
rejoice, give thanks, and sing;
your festal banner wave on high,
the Cross of Christ your King.

Refrain: Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice, give thanks, and sing!

Still lift your standard high,
still chanting as you go,
from youth to age, by night and day,
in gladness and in woe. [Refrain]

At last the march shall end;
the wearied ones shall rest,
the pilgrims reach their home at last,
Jerusalem the blest. [Refrain]

Praise God, who reigns on high,
the Lord whom we adore:
the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
one God forevermore. [Refrain]

Author: Edward H. Plumptre (1821-1891) an Anglican priest. Note that the words sung vary a bit.

As a kid I sang in the youth choir and on the wall behind the choir loft hung a wood craved, brightly painted beautiful Christus Rex which certainly made an impression on me. I'm still remembering it all these years later.

This cross is made of premium plywood on a wooden frame. It measures 5 feet tall X 4 feet wide X 2 inches thick and is painted in acrylic with iridescent gold.
