Saint Priscilla (AKA Prisca) was an important figure in the early Church. She and her husband, Aquila appear six times in the New Testament as dear friends of the Apostle Paul. Priscilla and Aquila, were tentmakers. They were forced to leave Rome because Aquila was a Jew. Priscilla's origin is unknown. They traveled to Corinth to live in exile where they worked with Paul, Acts 18:2-3 and in Acts 18:26, they counseled Apollos. And in Romans 16:3-4, Paul thanks them for their hard work and dedication to building the Church. They sailed to Ephesus with Paul in Acts 18:18-19. They are mentioned again in 2 Timothy 4:19 and 1 Corinthians 16:19. Both Saint Priscilla and Saint Aquila returned to Rome and there they were martyred together for their faith. |
